Microfabrication of ion trap electrodes allows for precise, micrometer-scale, and monolithic fabrication of multiple and geometrically more complicated traps, compared with typical macro-traps. Such traps should enable new experimental capabilities with cold trapped ions and will be important for realizing certain advances in quantum information processing, (e.g. quantum simulation and quantum computation). We will describe our efforts to microfabricate and implement ion traps for quantum physics experiments on trapped ions.
