I present an overview of recent observations, analysis, and theory that help us to understand the origins and roles of magnetic fields on intergalactic scales. A significant fraction of the gravitational infall energy of supermassive galactic black holes gets somehow converted into energetic magneto-plasma. The processes of the feedback of this energy from blach holes into the intergalactic medium and large scale structure are important unsolved questions in both plasma and MHD physics. They may also have profound astrophsical significance.
